GORGE PARK COMMUNITY GARDENS

We have 49 allotment beds ranging in size from 24 to 100 square feet. The smaller ones are standing height, suitable for those with mobility concerns. It’s amazing what can be grown, even in one of our smaller spaces!

GORGE TILLICUM REFUGEE SPONSORSHIP GROUP

We are friends and neighbours of all ages from the Gorge Tillicum neighbourhood and beyond, who have come together to sponsor a family of eight people currently living in one of the world’s largest refugee camps.  We will be reuniting the refugee family with their family who have already settled in Victoria.

GORGE CANADA DAY PICNIC

From its humble beginnings in 1999, the Gorge Canada Day Picnic now attracts over 10,000 people and is the largest public event in Saanich.

STREETSCPAPES  & BOULEVARDS

Planting on the boulevards and traffic circles are the result of traffic calming measures the GTCA lobbied Saanich for. This level of beautification is more than Saanich was willing to do so a dedicated group of volunteers continue to maintain this plantings.

SALMON IN THE CITY

Salmon spawn right here in our neighbourhood!

Each year hundreds of community members and school groups come to the fish fence to see the spawning fish and learn about the Colquitz River watershed.

Other areas of greenery are the 2 traffic circles on Bodega. These have been planted with some beautiful shrubs that will grow over the years into a garden that intersperses the 2 long pieces of pavement that make up Walter and Davida. The plants in these circles will be watered by Saanich’s under-ground watering system.

A number of traffic circles east of Tillicum are now also being tended by volunteers as is the new indigenous plant pollinator garden at Burnside and Wascana.

Planting your boulevard with a garden or a boulevard tree can help make our community even greener. If you are interested in planting your boulevard, check out Saanich's Guide.
