Salmon in the City
The fish counting fence is located in Cuthbert Holmes Park directly behind Montana's restaurant. Each autumn volunteers count and monitor the spawning fish. Community members and school groups learn about the river and fish in this natural classroom setting.
The fish counting, river stewardship and educational programs are completely run by volunteers. The Esquimalt Anglers are currently responsibility for the fence, while the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Saanich Parks are the governing bodies.
